Charity | Project Mercy Baja Challenge
Since 2002, MDC has been involved with Project Mercy’s Baja Challenge, a nonprofit organization in which development and construction companies in Southern California volunteer to build homes for destitute families in Eastern Tijuana. This is a “hands-on” effort by MDC’s team, usually comprised of Bruce McDonald, Bryan Bentrott, Ward Mace, Marcie Higley, Indrani Jackson and Carol Ettinger and some of their family and friends. The small sturdy homes are built in one day. MDC’s joint venture partner for each home is Paul Roulund and his capable crew from United Builders of California. Together we have built six houses and we hope to build more in the years to come. Our photo gallery is worth more than a thousand words. Please check out the pictures showing the transformation of living conditions for these people. Our MDC team is responsible for raising $3,500 for the cost of materials to build a small home. We also raise money and ask for material donations for our annual Christmas trip to the area. To help send a child to school, it costs $139 for registration and $25 for a school uniform. If you would like to help our neighbors in Baja, Mexico, contact Marcie Higley at (949) 655-8231 or email her at mhigley@masterdevelopment.com.
